Permissions / Trigger Warnings
May. 9th, 2020 03:47 pmSo, this is a catch-all post for content warnings/permissions with respect to Gilbert.
1. General Content Warnings - Gilbert's canon (the 1970s shojo manga melodrama, Kaze to Ki no Uta) gets very dark at times. It deals with themes ranging from child abuse to incest to homophobia to social ostracism to self-harm, and Gilbert's back-story is unavoidably wrapped up in pretty much all of those. He's a rape victim and the target of severe and repeated emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. He's also incestuously involved with his adult guardian and is convinced that's a legitimate romantic relationship, as opposed to a horrifying case of Stockholm Syndrome. He's also actively self-destructive and attempts suicide or serious self-harm multiple times throughout canon.
None of these details of Gilbert's past are likely to come up in the course of IC interaction with him unless expressly plotted out beforehand - it's not exactly stuff he's going to mention offhand - and any noteworthy references to them or to the behaviors involved will be flagged. But, still, if any of the above would lead you to prefer to avoid threads with him, or if you'd like me to take special note to avoid anything in particular in your interactions with him, just let me know!
2. Specific Behavioral Issues -
a. Gilbert often engages in self-destructive behavior. He canonically starves himself at points and actively provokes attacks that cause him serious bodily harm. At other points, he attempts suicide directly. Any content in this vein will be flagged in any post he's in.
b. Gilbert is canonically sexually active and promiscuous. He flirts near-constantly - it's basically a defense mechanism for him - and with little regard for the other party's age, gender, or comfort level. He's infamous at his school as a rent-boy, trading companionship and sexual favors for protection and help cheating on exams. He operates on the default assumption that any guy who gives him the time of day is probably after sex.
In-game, Gilbert won't be going to bed with anyone without extensive plotting beforehand, and anything explicit will always be kept off-screen. And if he's likely to progress beyond flirtation to actually proposing anything, I'll be sure to warn the other player in advance. (Conversely, if your character would be likely to encourage such suggestions, please warn me.) But "ice queen" and "flirting" (albeit prissy, Victorian-era flirting) are basically his two default attitudes, so the latter's not really avoidable with anyone he's more than casually interacting with.
Characters are completely welcome to react with discomfort or blunt rejection to said flirting, but if you'd prefer your characters to just not interact with Gilbert at all given the above, that's completely fine, too! Just give me a head's up.
